Here are 2 different bird feeders that are simple and fun and the kids can help themselves to a healthy snack while making them!
1). Pipe Cleaner Bird Feeders - I chose this especially for my 3 year old.
What you need:
• Pipe Cleaners (also called Chenille stems in the craft section)
• Cheerios
Make a loop at the end of the pipe cleaner. Put the cheerios on the pipe cleaner, loop the other end and hang it on a tree for the birds to enjoy! That’s it!
2). Bird Feeder on a String- I chose for my 8 year olds because I knew that they would like something a little more challenging. So if you have older kids this is great, and I enjoyed doing it too!
What you need:
• Needle ( I used tapestry needles because they are easier to thread and not as sharp)
• Thread
• Raisins
• Popcorn (we used the no butter microwave popcorn, cause the girls can put it in the microwave themselves)
• Bread (I squished the bread into little balls so they were easier to thread)
• Cranberries
Thread the needle and double up the thread. Tie a knot at the end. Thread popcorn, raisins, cranberries, and bread onto the thread. Hang on a tree for our feathered friends.
You can make this one as long as you want and put it on a railing or a tree as a garland!
Fun Fact: February is National Bird Feeding Month………..Now we know!
