About a month ago I asked several readers and friends to share with me their favorite funny family film.
I anticipated a variety of answers, and I got them! However, there was one film that was consistent in almost every list given:
THE PRINCESS BRIDE.

I remember being introduced to this film as a young teen, and watched it over and over again with my “growing up” family using this strange thing called a VCR where you put book sized black things into a rectangular hole and had to forward to the parts you wanted without a menu.
The story starts with a grandfather coming to share with his grandson (who is sick) a story he had earlier shared with his own son (the boy’s father).
The story is laced with the best kind of medicine for a boy stuck in bed: adventure, pirates, war, sword fighting, deceit, magic and even (much to the boys chagrin)…true love. It’s through these fantastic elements that the story of Buttercup a simple but beautiful farm girl and her true love Wesley is conveyed.
