Quick and Easy Graham Cracker Crust

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

At our house we’ve been growing raspberries. We had a few small bushes last year and got enough berries off them to eat a handful now and then or toss a few into a bowl of vanilla ice cream but this year, they have really taken off. We had enough new shoots grow out in the spring to add another row to our “vineyard” and all the plants have done well. We’ve eaten berries off the vine added them to our ice cream AND made several pies (my husband's favorite way to eat raspberries!)

The first pie I made had a regular pie crust. The second one had a graham cracker crust. As my daughter was looking for a meat tenderizer (which she calls “the kitchen hammer thing”) I remembered a great way to turn whole graham crackers into crumbs without pounding a hole in the counter and ending up with a splattering of crumbs on the floor.

Simply put the crackers into a plastic zip lock bag, zip it shut and begin rolling over the bag with a rolling pin. Just a few rolls and you have fine crumbs! It’s a great idea for making graham cracker crumbs! It works fast, easy and all your crackers stay in the bag, so there’s no mess!
