The Moments I Could Write About

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

The last few weeks have been filled with so many ups and downs that I have had a hard time finding just the right moment to write about.

I could write about watching my kids ride horses for the first time, and their excitement as they realized they were in control of an animal that outweighed them by hundreds of pounds.  I could write about the kindness and love I felt from our hostess, a woman who treated my kids like her own, even though she'd just met them.

I could write about combing lice and nits out of my kids' hair.  It was a moment to treasure, and I'm sure you'd be wanting to read about that experience again and again and again.

I could write about nearly losing my mind as a temporarily single mother on our cross-country trip, and my wonderful parents coming to my rescue.  I wouldn't have come out of the last week of traveling with my mind in tact if my parents hadn't lent me their patience and strength.

I could write about coming home from our trip 3 days early to surprise my husband, and watching happily as the kids followed him everywhere he went, yacking his ear off.

There have been so many moments to write about.  And all these moments--some touching, some fun, some gross (seriously, lice?)--come together and make life, and motherhood, an experience worth having.

So this week I'll be writing about more than one family moment.  Check back tomorrow when I post about a sleepy middle-of-the-night conversation with my 5-year-old son.

Right now I'll end with a conversation with my 3-year-old.  I was holding him on my lap and was suddenly filled with love for him, a sickeningly cute weakness that mothers have about all their children every now and again.  I whispered gently, "I love you."  He took his fingers out of his mouth long enough to whisper back, "I wubbed you, too.  Now be quiet."
