For any of you who live in the St. Henry area, the Movie and Gift Shoppe is probably a staple of your daily lives. For those of you who do not live in the area—well, you should definitely check it out, and I can guarantee you that you will find something that you like.

The Shoppe has actually been around since 1987, which means it has a faithful and contented clientele. But when it was purchased by current owner Teresa Hess, other valuable items and services were added to the already great inventory.

Teresa bought the business because she liked the idea of owning the Shoppe, and was excited to meet new people and introduce some of the great ideas she had stewing in the back of her mind. It is with those new found friends in mind that Teresa makes her decisions on what to offer and what to carry.

She always evaluates the needs of her friends and neighbors in the community, and then tries to find and bring to them what they want. The result has been continuous expansion. Since purchasing the store a little over 6 years ago, she has added tanning beds, a DVD selection and a digital photo printing station to the already impressive array of options available at the relatively small store.

As far as the basics go (it is, after all, called the Movie and Gift Shoppe), Teresa is pleased to offer a variety of gifts to her customers. She always chooses what she sells based on whether she believes she can sell it at fair price. Her philosophy is simple really: “Why should I charge more for something than I’d be willing to pay? If it’s something I couldn’t picture myself buying, I just won’t carry it.”

Even with such stipulations in place, she has been able to put together an astonishing array of items. She has displays of charming and coordinated home décor items. She also carries gifts for communion, confirmation and new babies, as well as birthday, graduation and other religious themed gifts.
