Laundry: The Ultimate Blackhole of the Universe

Laundry: Even typing it out makes me want to cringe!! To me this is the Ultimate blackhole. Once you think you have it under control someone in the family goes off and decides to get dressed for the day and the pile begins……yet again!!! BLAHHH!!

Laundry has always been a weakness of mine. Piles of unfolded clean laundry in my bedroom that over time get more wrinkled and dirty clothes get thrown into that pile. Kirk and I have been married for almost 14 years. In that 14 years we have added 4 children (almost 5) to the mix. A couple of months ago we decided we finally needed to get this under control in a way that both of us agreed to and would stick to. So this is what we came up with and as they say: so far, so good.

 Here is our system that works for us that I would like to share with you. We decided to pick a day of the week that all of us would be home in the evening. During the day I wash and dry the clothes and then put those on our bed (see pic). That evening we rent a movie and fold clothes TOGETHER! After everything is folded, we pause the movie and put everything away. The really surprising thing is that it only takes us about 45 minutes. Folding, put away, matching socks, everything!! Then the beautiful thing about it is that we don’t have to worry about it for a whole week. Another thing that I discovered is that I don’t get so angry and bitter because I take care of it by myself. Sometimes being the “take care of it fairy” is coming up with ideas that we can all take care of it together.

 Pre-wash Laundry Spray

Here is a great homemade stain remover that my grandmother shared with me and I would like to pass it onto you! It works great and is super cost effective!

1 c. water
½ cup ammonia
½ liquid laundry detergent

Put water in at least a 2 cup spray bottle, add ammonia and liquid detergent. Shake to mix together.
